If I Had A Gully, It Would Be Washed. Clean

If the rain spoils our picnic, but saves a farmer's crop, who are we to say it shouldn't rain? - Tom Barrett

What a difference a day makes.  I went from a half dry pond to a full one overnight.  I had 5 inches in the rain gauge.

Thank you God.

It has been so dry for the past three weeks.  I managed to keep the garden alive by watering from the well overnight.  But it has paid off.  For the first time in three years, I have CORN.  And it is very tasty.  I will start putting some up today.  I am also awash in toms, also need putting up.  And WHAT WAS I THINKING,  I put in two rows of cow peas and absolutely can't keep up with them.  I am picking and giving them away.  Unfortunately, I put the garden in so late that my cukes never really did anything.  The okra is just coming online and the beans are slowing.  I still need to get the cabbage to make sauerkraut.  I was desperate enough to make some that I started shopping online for a mini fridge.  Jim came in during the search and said,  "well, I have one of those in the barn.   *#$)#($&#_@*!!!  All this time I couldda had the kraut.

But I am back to square one with the weeds.  Very bad.  But it's been too hot to work in the garden

I also had to replace my marine battery that operated the pump for my garden.  Very pricy but I got the one with the 4 year guarantee.  And I got my 4 wheeler carb running and the battery charged.  Chores Chores.

The chickitas are growing very fast.  They are in their skexes stage.  I can't tell what I have, but I think at least one is a hen.  The chicklets are teens now and like to stay out late.  I chased them for 1/2 hour yesterday in the rain and lightening trying to get them in the coop.  I was very angry (a most understated sentiment).

On top of all this, I am now official as the church treasurer and have been busy trying to get the handwritten records for this year on a spreadsheet.  I am still not a bookkeeper, but the church stuff is relatively simple.

I also got handed a whole box full of letters from my uncle.  Apparently my granddad was a enthusiastic communicator and wrote to EVERYONE.  Anyhoo, I need to get them into the pooter before they fade beyond reading.  This will probably take me a long time as my printer is persnickity on scanning with the IMac.

The Kentucky trip is coming up fast and I have started to put lists together on what needs to be done.  I have an itenerary as follows:

As you can see, tuesday and thursday are all about the booze and wednesday and friday are all about the history.  I am really looking forward to it and hope the gas prices stay low.

All for now
